The Industrial Metaverse: A Conversation Between Siemens and NVIDIA

In a Hannover Messe panel discussion, the founders of two companies familiarized the public with the industrial metaverse.

The idea of the “industrial metaverse” is not a new one. Still, it is gaining the attention of many firms that are beginning to use virtual digital twins for their factory operations, and technological development makes this area more advanced. Nevertheless, it is also accurate to assert that the primary participants in this industry are not yet fully developed, and they might not continue to be the handful of players who currently dominate the niche. Presently, both NVIDIA and Siemens are undertaking the endeavor to replicate business operations digitally.

NVIDIA has been a key driver of the worldwide AI explosion thanks to its cutting-edge chips, which have helped it become one of the world’s most valuable corporations. Omniverse has the added benefit of assisting with real-time visualization and simulation, yet it is an important tool for NVIDIA. On the other hand, Siemens has the Xcelerator ecosystem, enabling enterprises to expand outside their digital footprint. Recently, these two platforms entered into a much deeper partnership, and they can now give much stronger support within the industrial metaverse.

The Hannover Messe conference, held recently in Germany, included numerous novelties. NVIDIA, like Siemens in previous years, was present to demonstrate how the industrial metaverse is growing forward. They participated in a 30-minute live chat session, which is now available on LinkedIn on demand. During the moderated discussion, Roland Busch, President and CEO of Siemens, and Rev Lebaredian, Vice President of Omniverse and Simulation at NVIDIA, participated.

The meeting commenced with a status report on the current state of the industrial transformation, with particular emphasis on the technological advancements of NVIDIA. As they proceeded through the expo, both Roland Busch and Rev. Lebaredian expressed delight at the number of industry innovations they were able to observe in such a brief period of time.

Roland Busch, CTO of SAP, stated that the next level of technology the company introduces to its clients is visible. The digital realm is occupying the leading edge, making it increasingly difficult for those present at the exhibitions to describe what is actually occurring.

Lebaredian further noted that digitization has been the dominant trend in practically all businesses. This is NVIDIA’s second year at this show alongside Siemens. In the outset of his address, he remarked that as it becomes more digital, people like me have more natural areas to contribute. He believed NVIDIA’s capacity was steadily expanding into this arena.

The discussion then shifted to how AI will “change the industry” and why the industrial metaverse is needed. She first suggested digital representations of the real world are important because they allow the digital and real worlds to intersect.

Similarly, the industrial metaverse is still in its early stages of development. Nonetheless, in collaboration with NVIDIA, Siemens is a key player in developing new capacities and workflows in this field. Lebaredian predicted a bright future: “What we are doing now, as amazing and powerful as it is, is only a hint of what is to come.” This implies he firmly believes there is still much more to be revealed in the industrial metaverse.
