Changpeng Zhao (CZ), founder and former CEO of Binance, recently expressed his admiration for Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, highlighting his contribution to the blockchain industry.

In the tweet of admiration, CZ emphasized that the current scale and success of the crypto and blockchain sector are deeply intertwined with Buterin’s contributions, which include developing smart contracts, establishing ERC20 standards, and developing Layer 2 solutions.
CZ’s remarks come in response to a post by WhaleFUD, which highlighted the importance of both CZ and Buterin in driving the global popularity of cryptocurrency.
With this tweet CZ is recognizing and appreciating the role that Buterin has played within the industry rather than spreading negativity about him.
“Crypto would not be the size it is today without Vitalik Buterin’s contributions, smart contracts, ERC20, NFTs, SBT, L2, and much more,” said CZ, highlighting the importance of collaboration and respect among key figures in the space.
CZ also humbly added “Me, I am just a pleb still learning about blockchain.” This sentence indicates the respect he has for the co-founder of Ethereum and for Vitalik Buterin’s expertise and Buterin’s ongoing efforts to advance blockchain technology.
CZ Talks about Missed Opportunity
Further responding to a user’s question about holding ETH, CZ admitted, “Not any meaningful amounts. I might have some in an old wallet here and there. I missed the whole ETH train right under my eyes.” He recollected meeting Vitalik Buterin in 2013 and even hosting him in his Tokyo apartment in 2015.
CZ also addressed his initial skepticism, saying, “My (arrogant) advice to him was, ‘A turning complete language on a blockchain? Is that too big of a bite to chew?'”
Despite this missed opportunity, CZ acknowledged that this move actually fueled his ambition to launch Binance and BNB. “But then again, had I bought ETH that early, I might not have had the drive to launch Binance or BNB,” he stated.
Buterin’s Contribution
Buterin’s work has laid the foundation for significant advancements in decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and other blockchain applications. His vision continues to inspire innovation across the industry as he addresses challenges like scalability and security currently.
