The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has announced the establishment of the EF Silviculture Society, an informal advisory group composed of individuals outside the foundation. This society is being launched to ensure that the development of the Ethereum (ETH) ecosystem is in line with core values such as open source, privacy, security and resistance to censorship.

Society Members
The criteria for selecting has not been disclosed but it consists of a collection of individuals from outside the foundation.
Purpose and Core Values
The EF Silviculture Society is designed to provide informal advice to the ETH Foundation, which ensures the ecosystem’s growth to its functional and foundational principles.
The foundation emphasizes that the “roots of the Infinite Garden are nourished by soil rich in these core values,” highlighting the importance of maintaining these values for the long-term growth and success of ETH.
The EF calls on the community to jointly maintain these principles, noting ETH’s success depends on developers who adhere to them. The move also acknowledges that for ETH to thrive, it cannot be dependent on a single entity but must grow from the collective consensus of its contributors.
Ethereum Foundation’s Role
The Ethereum Foundation supports free and open-source projects that strengthen the ETH ecosystem, focusing on builder tools, infrastructure, research, and community resources.
The Foundation’s mission is to allocate resources to critical projects, be a valued voice within the ETH ecosystem and advocate for ETH. The EF’s ethos has always been centered around these values.
